Daytona State’s Information Technology Program Re-Accredited by ABET

DSC offers the only ABET-accredited BSIT program among state colleges in Florida

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (September 3, 2025) – Daytona State College’s Bachelor of Science in Information Technology program has been re-accredited by ABET, a global nonprofit, non-governmental agency that accredits programs in applied and natural science, computing, engineering and engineering technology.

“There is tremendous demand for computer programmers, database administrators, networking and computer system administrators and information security analysts locally and around the country,” said Dr. Tom LoBasso, President of Daytona State. “ABET’s certification is the industry standard and reflects our commitment to provide students with the education and skills to pursue successful and rewarding careers in IT.”

Daytona State offers the only ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree in the Florida College System.

“Our BSIT program prepares graduates for rewarding careers in a range of fields, including networking, cybersecurity, computer systems, programming, systems design and maintenance, data analytics, and IT project management,” said Dr. Nabeel Yousef, Chair of the Angela & D. S. Patel School of Engineering Technology. “Virtually any industry using computers and networks has a high demand for qualified IT professionals.”

Daytona State’s program prepares students with a broad foundation in development, delivery, management and security of information systems. The program takes about two years to complete after earning the associate degree and average annual salaries for graduates range from $90,000 to $120,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

ABET accreditation assures that programs meet standards to produce graduates ready to enter critical technical fields, lead the way in innovation and emerging technologies, and anticipate the welfare and safety needs of the public.

Sought worldwide, ABET’s voluntary peer-review process is highly respected because it adds critical value to academic programs in the technical disciplines, where quality, precision and safety are of the utmost importance.

Developed by technical professionals from ABET’s member societies, ABET criteria focus on what students experience and learn. ABET accreditation reviews look at program curricula, faculty, facilities and institutional support and are conducted by teams of highly skilled professionals from industry, academia and government, with expertise in the ABET disciplines.
