DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (April 11, 2023) – Daytona State College sophomore Michael de Beauvoir has been selected as a 2023 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar and will receive a $1,500 scholarship to support his ongoing schooling in Fall 2023.
 
de Beauvoir, a Criminal Justice major planning to pursue a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice upon graduation, was selected from more than 2,400 applicants based on scores he earned in the All-USA Academic Team competition. This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
 
“I want to thank my parents for their encouragement and support, my teachers at Matanzas High School and professors at Daytona State for their guidance and advice,” de Beauvoir said. “I would also like to thank PTK President Yireh Martinez and my advisor Hana Anderson of the PTK chapter at Daytona State College for their effort in encouraging me and supporting me in my academic pursuits. I owe all my success to all of them.”
 
de Beauvoir has been active in a broad range of community projects. As a Key Club member at Matanzas High School, he took part in food distribution at a food pantry in Bunnell, participated in a beach cleanup at Flagler Beach, and signed up students, staff, and teachers for a blood drive in April 2021.
 
He was named to Daytona State’s President’s List in Fall 2020 (while studying as a dual-enrolled student at Matanzas) and was named to the President’s List in Fall 2021 and Spring 2022, the Dean’s List in Summer 2022 and the President’s List in Fall 2022.
 
de Beauvoir was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Mu Rho chapter in April 2022, selected as the PTK representative for Daytona State’s Flagler/Palm Coast Campus, and became a member of the Honor Society in October 2022. He was selected for the 2023 PTK All-Florida Academic Team in February 2023 and named a 2023 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar in March. He also was selected for the Outstanding Student Award at Daytona State.
 
The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, with nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually.
