Daytona State College adds new Healthcare Management Concentration to B.A.S. in Supervision and Management degree
Student demand and continued job outlook growth leads to degree expansion
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (November 10, 2021) – The Daytona State College District Board of Trustees approved adding a new Healthcare Management Concentration to the B.A.S. in Supervision and Management degree program. In the continuing effort to meet the community’s evolving workforce needs, DSC’s School of Business Administration and School of Health Careers developed the Healthcare Management Concentration to fit into the existing B.A.S. degree program framework. The concentration will prepare students to lead in healthcare organizations, and service managers are the 11th fastest growing occupation in Volusia County with a growth rate of 30.1% projected through 2028.
Graduates will become effective healthcare administrators capable of managing and delivering health services in a variety of for-profit, non-profit, and governmental settings which can include hospitals, medical group practices, clinics, nursing homes, long-term care and rehabilitative facilities, public health agencies, and other health-related organizations.
“The School of Business has been expanding B.A.S. concentration offerings to meet the skills and competences required by employers in our service area,” said Max Nagiel, Chair of the School of Business Administration. “This new concentration targets a field with high demand and significant future growth prospects. It is one more educational option offered to our students, one that will lead them to a rewarding career path while bridging an existing skills gap in our community.”
The B.A.S. in Supervision and Management program was the College’s first bachelor’s degree offered in 2005, and has grown over time to include six concentrations: Hospitality, Human Resource Management, Project Management, Supply Chain Management, and now Healthcare Management.
With approval secured, program managers and faculty will continue to develop the concentration for rollout in fall 2022.
