Career/Professional honors: I’ve had the pleasure and honor of touching the lives of many young men as an assistant basketball coach here at the college for 14 years and for five years at Mainland High School. I was a part of two JUCO men’s basketball state championships at Daytona Beach Community College in 1992 and 1999, and won a state high school championship in men’s basketball at Mainland High School in 1998. I also was Falcon Agent of the Year in 2005. Academically, I made the President’s List in 2011,and the Dean’s List in 2011 and 2012.
How did you get the nickname Sugarbear? It was a lady who worked for UCF when they first built building 140. I can’t remember her name, it’s been so long ago and she’s not there anymore. But she always told me I was sweet as sugar and big like a bear. One day, when I delivered a package to her, she gave me a big stuffed bear holding a bag of sugar and started calling me Sugarbear. The name has stuck!
Outside Interests: I enjoy cycling and playing tennis, basketball or any recreational sport. I also enjoy singing in my church’s men’s choir, teaching Sunday school and mentoring young men there.
What did you do prior to joining Daytona State College: I was a porter and courtesy driver for Terry Taylor Ford.
What projects are you working on right now? I’m completing my BAS. But also, every day in Central Receiving there is project to work on!
The most rewarding thing about my Daytona State College experience has been meeting some great people over the years, as well as great young men and women who were student athletes here who still keep in contact with me!
What is one goal you still hope to achieve in your career? To become manager of Central Receiving and Property Management.
One thing people are surprised to find out about me is: I’M SINGLE!
Last book read: The Bible
