Daytona State College Nursing Student Tyra Peters Receives Chime Scholars Foundation Scholarship
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (September 9, 2026) – Daytona State College nursing program student Tyra Peters has been named a 2026 Chime Workforce Scholar, joining 200 students nationwide recognized for their academic achievement and pursuit of career-focused education.
The Chime Workforce Scholarship, funded by the Chime Scholars Foundation and administered by the Phi Theta Kappa Foundation, provides each scholar with $1,000 to help cover educational expenses while completing a certificate or associate degree that prepares them to enter the workforce in a high-demand field.
Peters, a single mother, was laid off from her job in advertising during COVID and decided to explore a career as a nursing assistant. She enrolled in Daytona State’s Associate of Science in Nursing program in 2025. She is on schedule to graduate in 2027 and is working full time at AdventHealth.
“As soon as I met the residents at the facility I was working at, I knew I was meant to be in healthcare providing care to patients and support to their families,” Peters said. “After graduation I intend to continue working at AdventHealth and will pursue a specialty in wound care as soon as I feel proficient in bedside nursing.”
The Chime Workforce Scholarship supports students preparing for high-demand careers that strengthen their communities and local economies. By helping students complete their education and earn workforce credentials, the program helps create a stronger pipeline of skilled workers in fields where they are needed most.
