Thank you for your interest in the Daytona State College Adult High School program. High school classes are offered at Daytona State College for students 16 years of age or older who possess a minimum of 18 high school credits and a 2.0 GPA. Students enrolled in the DSC Adult High School are required to complete 24 academic credits and pass all End of Course Exams (EOC's) and Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) ELA (Reading and Writing) mandated by the State of Florida.
The DSC Adult High School is an online non-traditional program with open entry. To enroll, students must be officially withdrawn from their current school and must present his or her official withdrawal form from that school to a DSC admission representative when admitting into the Daytona State Adult High School (if a resident of Volusia or Flagler County). Prospective students can go to any DSC campus admissions office to gain admission into the DSC Adult High School or complete the online application available at Daytonastate.edu. All students applying for the DSC Adult High School will be required to take the TABE assessment (picture ID required) and pay the $30.00 Adult Education fee before receiving an official schedule.
Highly motivated students enjoy early and sustained success in the high school program. As an open enrollment, competency based program students will prove mastery of all curriculum subject material before progressing into new lessons or topic. This model ensures both the absorption and retention of academic principles and material, translating into greater academic success and better preparation for college course academic rigor. The model also permits students to move through the program as quickly as their personal motivation and academic success allows.
All students must earn a minimum of two credits a semester. Students not earning two academic credits per 16 week semester will be placed on academic probation for the following semester. Students will be expected to make up the unearned credit(s) from the previous semester as well as the two credits for the current semester. Students continuing to not earn the required credits per semester will not be permitted to remain in the high school program and must register for the GED program the following semester.
Students are required to purchase their first four text books. From that point with each ½ credit earned, a text book can be traded in for the text that is then needed for the next class. We have found that ordering the books online can save up to 75% of the cost. One website we have found is www.cheapbooks.com.
There is a per semester fee of $30.00 for Adult Education classes. Programs in the School of Adult Education include Adult High School, GED, ABE, and ESOL.
