When should I expect my housing allowance?
All payments from the VA are paid in the arrears. Meaning that you will not receive your housing allowance for the month of January until February. If you are at the beginning or ending of the semester your housing allowance may be prorated for a partial month. Typically, a student is able to drop or withdraw from a course using their DSC student portal or through the registrar's office. A student should always consult with the VA certifying official before doing so to learn about repercussions and the debt the student may incur due to the drop or withdraw.

The VA is considered the last method of payment meaning if you are awarded a scholarship or any other aid that is specific to tuition and fees only the amount reported to the VA will be the balance owed after the aid has been applied when using the Post 9/11 GI Bill ®. This is also to include employee tuition scholarships or waivers.
