Daytona State College will close on Monday, February 16 in observance of George Washington’s birthday as an official state holiday. The recognition coincides with Florida’s statewide celebration of the country’s 250th anniversary. The College will reopen on Tuesday, February 17, at 8 a.m.

Aviation Maintenance Management A.S.

Airframe and powerplant (A&P) mechanics are certified generalist mechanics who repair and maintain most parts of an aircraft, including the engines, landing gear, and brakes. This comprehensive program prepares you for careers in aviation maintenance by building strong foundational skills in aircraft systems, powerplant technology, and airframe repair.

Through extensive hands-on instruction, you’ll gain proficiency in maintaining aircraft fluid lines, materials, and processes; performing ground operations and servicing; and conducting cleaning and corrosion control procedures. Training includes foundational skills in reciprocating and turbine engines, as well as inspection and maintenance of engine systems such as electrical, ignition, lubrication, fuel metering, induction, cooling, exhaust, fire protection, and engine instruments. Students also develop the ability to maintain aircraft propellers, unducted fans, and auxiliary power units.

The program, pending FAA approval, covers critical airframe competencies, and embedded throughout the curriculum are essential employability skills tailored to Aviation Maintenance Powerplant Technicians, including human relations, supervisory readiness, job management principles, and effective communication. Graduates emerge well-prepared to enter the aviation maintenance field with the technical expertise, safety mindset, and professional skills required for long-term success.

This program qualifies students to sit for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) examinations for aviation maintenance powerplant and airframe technician certification.
