What did you do prior to joining Daytona State College? Lots of interesting things! I have worked as a TV news reporter, sports writer and anchor, as a TV producer and assistant news director, media coach and as an adjunct professor at Stetson University and Bethune-Cookman University.
What professional projects are you working on right now? In collaboration with the College of Hospitality and Culinary Management, the staff at WDSC-TV and the Television Studio Production Certificate students, we are producing a live program titled Local Flavor. Check it out Thursdays at 7:30 p.m. I also am always working up some new project with Professor Samantha Stern, our theatre director. Our latest is a presentation on collaborative efforts at community colleges.
What has been the most rewarding thing about your Daytona State College experience? I’ve spent a few years at Daytona State College in different roles, and I have always enjoyed my teaching role best. I love watching students as they master skills and gain confidence in their abilities. When they walk in the door to begin the Television Studio Production Certificate, many of them have never been in a television station, but in their third semester they are producing their own live shows!
What is one goal you still hope to achieve in your career? I would like to expand the Television Studio Production program.
In life? I have a long bucket list. Somewhere near the top is motorcycling cross-country.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten? When you find yourself in a hole, put down the shovel.
One thing people are surprised to find out about me is: I gave this one away already, but I ride a 750 Honda Shadow Aero.
Last book read: “Songs of the Humpback Whale” by Jodi Picoult
If they could bottle your personality what would the label read? Vintage Brut
Who are the four people in the history of the world you most admire? Jesus, Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and my parents. Each modeled compassion and has served as my teacher. The Daytona State of Mind to me means providing the right tools for students to achieve their goals.
