DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (Jan. 30, 2020) – Five Daytona State College healthcare programs have application deadlines approaching for summer or fall admission. Prospective students must also apply separately for admission to DSC or be already enrolled at the College. Additionally, the TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) is required for applicants to the Dental Hygiene, Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) and Associate Degree in Nursing (RN-ADN) programs. The Dental Hygiene Program is accepting applications during the entire month of February. Applicants must complete eight hours of observation with a dental hygienist and the TEAS must be taken at DSC. There are 16 dental hygiene students accepted each year and applicants will be notified of their acceptance by the end of April. Classes begin in the Summer B Term (June 29) and are offered only on the DeLand Campus. The Dental Assisting Program accepts applications any time during the year but interested individuals are advised to submit their applications by mid-May. Applicants must complete eight hours of observation in a dental office. There are 24 dental assisting students accepted each year, classes begin in the Summer B Term (June 29) and are offered only on the Daytona Beach Campus. Students selected for the program will be notified by the end of May. More information on the application process, program requirements and fees can be found at the Dental Assisting program page. The Occupational Therapy Assistant Program is accepting applications through April 30. Applications are reviewed in late May with status letters mailed by mid-June. Classes begin in the Fall semester. This is an AS degree program with prerequisite courses and interested individuals should visit DaytonaState.edu/hchs/OTAmain for more detailed requirements. Prospective students should also attend one of three information sessions, which are being offered on February 18, March 17, and April 21 on the Daytona Beach Campus in Building 320, Room 113 from 5 to 6 p.m. Attendance at one of these sessions will substitute as a pre-admission consultation. The School of Nursing will be accepting applications for the LPN Program in May only, and the RN-ADN Program in May and September. Applications must be submitted in person at any campus location and the TEAS must also be taken at DSC. LPN applicants need a minimum overall grade point average of 2.00 and ADN applicants need a minimum overall GPA of 2.50. Decision letters will be sent approximately six to eight weeks after the application window closes. The LPN Program offers daytime classes only on the Daytona Beach Campus while the ADN Program has daytime and afternoon/evening options. Please note, students accepted into the ADN Program are only guaranteed a seat, and could be placed at either the Daytona Beach, DeLand, Deltona, Flagler/Palm Coast or New Smyrna Beach/Edgewater Campus.
