New Sonography Program

New Diagnostic Medical
Sonography Program

Diagnostic Medical Sonographers are highly trained individuals that specialize in  creating images of the body’s soft tissues and organs using high energy sound waves.

These ultrasound or sonogram images are usually one of the first diagnostic tests performed when diagnosing or monitoring health concerns of patients. Most Sonographers work in healthcare settings like a physician’s office or a hospital.

The program will be offered at the Deltona Campus beginning Summer 2024. Our inaugural first cohort for this program has been identified and selected and will begin classes this summer term- the application window for our next class will open in January 2025.

Daytona State launches fundraising campaign for second residence hall

DSC's second residence hall renderingOur capital campaign to build a second student residence hall on the Daytona Beach Campus is underway and you are invited to help our students!

The new facility, which is expected to house approximately 200- or 256 students, could open as early as Fall 2026.

Our first residence hall has been a resounding success. It opened to full capacity in Fall 2022. It is already at full capacity for the upcoming academic year. And we have received more than 1,000 student housing applications in less than one year.

When we began studying the possibility of building housing on campus in 2018, a study we commissioned showed the college could support more than 500 students. Initial plans for the second residence hall call for approximately 52,000 square feet of space and approximately 200- or 256 beds.

We know that students who live on campus are more engaged with their instructors, utilize academic support systems more frequently, and participate more in on-campus activities.

With the DSC Foundation, we’re launching a $15 million capital campaign. Donations from the community will ensure our residence hall will be an affordable and accessible option for students. We need your support. Make your gift here, or contact the Daytona State College Foundation at Foundation@DaytonaState.edu or by calling (386) 506-3195.

You can learn more at the new residence hall web page and keep tabs on the campaign’s progress.

Outstanding Employee Richard “Beau” Bosman

Honoring Richard “Beau” Bosman

Beau joined the Auto Service program full time in 2015. He has created almost all his curriculum himself, bringing in homemade videos, photos and parts to use as part of his instruction. He has repaired equipment in the shop and helped other programs and staff with issues and repairs. He has also worked on the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) and National Automotive Technicians Education (NATEF) paperwork for accreditation of the Auto Service program.

Beau is always friendly and personable, and students refer to him as “The Wizard” because of his knowledge and talent.

Please join us in congratulating Beau for his outstanding service and commitment to our mission.

Outstanding Employee Donald Donado

Honoring Donald Donado

When you tune-in to WDSC-TV, it’s easy to take for granted how programs get on the air. Despite all the technology used to store content, schedule programming, and automate playback, filling 1,440 minutes per day, 365 days per year still requires someone working hands-on to ensure that every minute is filled with perfectly timed and appropriate content. That person behind the curtain at WDSC-TV is Donald.

Donald graduated from the University of Florida in 1994 and joined us in 1998 as a Master Control Technician at WDSC, then known as WCEU. He would arrive before 6 a.m. to sign the station on air and set up videotapes for the day’s broadcast schedule. Today, as the Traffic Manager (Coordinator II) for the station, Donald works tirelessly assembling the on-air schedule, downloading and quality-checking the content, and filling the gaps between programs.

Donald’s extensive knowledge of the program content also allows him to provide valuable insight and suggestions for new programs and scheduling strategies. Not to mention, in a pinch, Donald can run a camera on a shoot, and I hear he’s also good at video editing.

Even at home, Donald spot-checks the station and is ready to make corrections to ensure things run seamlessly to deliver the best viewer experience.

He is an essential part of the team at WDSC-TV and Daytona State College, and his hard work and dedication is greatly appreciated.

Please join us in congratulating Donald for his outstanding service and commitment to our mission.
