Veterans Day 2018
Veterans Day was observed across six campus locations during the week leading up to Nov. 11. The Daytona Beach Campus ceremony, held Friday, Nov. 9, featured keynote address by Chief Master Sgt. Shane Smith, U.S. Air Force, Superintendent, 920th Operations Group, Patrick AFB, Fla. Smith serves as the principle advisor to the commander on enlisted leadership for organizing, training, equipping and maintaining the group’s rescue forces, ensuring unit readiness for worldwide deployments in support of combatant commands. Rolling Thunder Chapter 8 concluded the ceremony with the “Missing Man Table” presentation.
Saluting service members past and present with ceremonies on its campuses in observation of Veterans Day, Daytona State's New Smyrna Beach-Edgewater Campus on Wednesday, Nov. 7, featured Color Guard from Volusia County Sheriff's Department, performances by the New Smyrna Beach High School Barracuda Marching Band, plus guest speakers City of Edgewater Mayor Michael Ignasiak, City of Oak Hill Mayor Douglas Gibson, New Smyrna City Commissioner Jake Sachs and introductions by Veterans Advocate Patrick Toal. The National Anthem was performed by Jessup Grinko, and Missing Man Formation flyover by Experimental Aircraft Association.
