Solid Start for Falcon Basketball

Dr. Carol Eaton sinks a free throw before the men’s game against Polk State College on November 11th.  The strong start for both the men’s and women’s basketball teams has Dr. Eaton excited, along with the coaches, players, and Falcon fans.

The men’s and women’s seasons are just in their infancy, but both teams are off to an impressive start combining for 8 wins and just 1 loss.  The men’s team is 4-1 overall, while the women’s team remains undefeated at 4-0.

Daytona State College’s men’s team returns one of their leading scorers from the 2013-2014 season, Tanksley Efianayi.  In the first 5 games this season, Efianayi has established himself as an offensive threat for the Falcons.  Currently Efianayi is averaging 25 points per game hitting, scoring 45% of his shots from the field.  Efanayi is also a leading rebounder for Daytona State, snatching 7.8 boards per game.

In addition to Efianayi’s contributions on the season, freshman Wesley Alcegaire and Tyquone Greer, have put up strong numbers for the Falcons.  Alcegaire is second to Efianayi in points per game with 17.  Greer is adding an additional 10 points per game.  Marqee Williams is leading the way for the Falcons in assists.

The Lady Falcons remain undefeated as they head to Ocala Friday, November 14th to compete in the Central Florida Shoot Out.  The Falcons will be matched up against FCSAA District opponents Broward College and Eastern Florida State College.

The Lady Falcons have started the season averaging 40% from the field.  Brittney Chambers, Monterika Warren, and Stephanie Ratliff are currently the leading scorers for Daytona State.  Chambers is averaging 13.8 points and 3.5 assists per game.  Warren is adding 10 points per game and Ratiliff 9.7.

Warren’s speed and relentless hustle has her leading the Falcons defensively with 3 steals per game.  Ratliff leads in rebounds, averaging 7 boards.

Both teams kickoff Mid-Florida Conference play January 10th.  Until then, they will continue to take on FCSAA District opponents as they look to add victories to the winning column.
