Geologists study the earth and the forces acting upon it, including the solids, liquids, and gases that make it up. Study includes topics such as plate tectonics, earthquakes, soils & sediment, rocks & minerals, and ground water. Courses and experiences at Daytona State College Institute of Marine and Environmental Studies are designed so that students become acquainted with basic scientific concepts through classroom and hands-on exploration of natural environments while using state-of-the art equipment.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of Geoscientists (geologists and marine scientists) with a bachelor’s degree is projected to grow 14% nationally and 21.7% for the State of Florida, from 2016 to 2026.
