NEW DIRECTIONS

 

About New Directionsndlogo
The New Directions program is designed to help individuals gain marketable skills and attain economic self-sufficiency through high wage vocational training. The program also provides referrals for support services such as assessments, personal and career counseling, employability skills training and self-esteem building.

Funding for New Directions is made possible in part through the Carl D. Perkins Applied Technology Education Act.

 

Am I Eligible?
To take advantage of the services offered through New Directions you must be one of the following:

  • Single Parent (Male or Female)
  • Displaced Homemaker (Male or Female)
  • Single Pregnant Womenndwoman
  • Non-Traditional Student

Other Program Criteria                                                                        
1. Have at least a minimum
cumulative GPA of 2.5 and enroll in at                    
least 6 credit hours.

2. Assistance is limited to
individuals demonstrating financial
need and who have not obtained a
previous college degree.

3. Be enrolled in a New Directions
eligible A.A.S., A.S., or certifcate
degree program.

4. Provide eligibility documentation
and keep program informed of name,
address, or phone changes.

Renewal Criteria

1. Participants are required to show updated college transcripts when applying for renewal of assistance.

2. Participants must complete a mid-term grade review.

3. Participants must also provide a new class schedule.

ndmedIs My Degree Program Eligible?

The New Directions Program assists eligible students who are enrolled in these type of degree programs:

Associate of Applied Science (AAS)
Associate of Science Degree (AS)

The two-year AAS and AS degrees prepare students for careers which require specialized college level training. The programs are tailored for immediate entry into business, health, engineering technology, nursing, computer science, and technical and visual arts careers.

Occupational Certificate Programs:

Certificate programs prepare students for jobs that require a year or less of training. Most certificate programs are offered for vocational credit. However, some college certificate programs provide
credit toward AAS or AS degree.

Dates of Application Acceptance
  • Fall Semester - July 1st - October 1st
  • Spring Semester - October 2nd - December 1st
  • Summer Semester - April 1st - June 30th
