TeamReflecting on a very successful 2011-12 campaign, our teams performed at a high level both in and out of the pool.

In the classroom, the Falcon women’s team earned the College Swim Coaches Association of America award as a Scholar All American Team with an overall grade point average of 3.07. Eleven men and women earned individual Scholar All American honors.

In the pool, the Falcons claimed championships in the women’s 100 free, 200 free, 200 back, 800 free relay, and the men’s 1650 free (two more titles than the previous season). Every member of the team got a second swim in the finals and contributed points towards our overall team effort.

As a result of their hard work, every individual who wished to pursue their athletic careers beyond Daytona State earned spots at the University of Florida, Florida International, Rollins College, Nova Southeastern, Wingate, Lewis, and McMaster University.

Looking forward to our championship meet in Buffalo this March, we look to improve on our overall points scored at the meet. Our goals as a program are to improve ourselves daily in order to achieve our ultimate goal of winning a National Championship in March. Daytona State’s history of competing at a national level includes three straight NJCAA Women’s titles in 1980, 1981, and 1982. (The program was discontinued in 1986 then reinstated in 2008). Since then, the Falcons have finished no lower than third place at the national championships. We look forward to continuing Daytona States’ championship ways.

This year, we welcome several outstanding individuals who bring not only strong swimming backgrounds to Daytona State, but excellent academic credentials also. Newcomers’ athletic accomplishments include international competition, national team representation, state championships, and achieving Senior National and Olympic Trials qualifying standards. Academically, we have students who ranked in the top 5% of their class as well as recipients of various academic scholarships and awards.
