Where: Rome, Italy
Who: Open to all students
When: May 22-30, 2012
What: This study abroad program will center on the arts and history of Rome and Florence, as well as the social and political reality present in the cities that will be visited. The eras covered will be the Classical era, the Renaissance, and the Baroque era. Our nine day visit to Rome will be dedicated to daily excursions in several locations, an excursion to Florence, and finally half a day spent in Pompeii. Other visits might include also Ostia (Roman artificial city harbor) and an Etruscan city (Vulci, Tarquinia, or Cerveteri). Rome is a “museum in open sky”, the city’s marvels and visual displays will be our classroom.
Each day, visits will include a predetermined itinerary that will take us to chosen locations, galleries, and museums inherent with our course of studies and interest. The instructor will briefly introduce the topic, students will engage in comments, observations and finally, draw conclusions. All, as images evolve, will be taken into consideration. Further discussions will be held in our hotel, in one of the conference halls, and upon our return on-line.
