STEM Community Scholars Program

What is STEM?

Daytona State College’s STEM Community Scholars Program aims to increase the number of students receiving degrees in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines.  This program is supported by the National Science Foundation.  The sole purpose of the STEM Community Scholars program is to ensure that your success meets or exceeds your potential.

Admission Requirements

To become a STEM Community Scholar, you must:

• Be in an associate of arts degree program or associate of science degree program
• Earn and maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.75

STEM Majors

Students who are enrolled as STEM Community Scholars will be exposed to the following degrees offered by 4-year institutions.

• Agriculture
• Forestry
• Astronomy
• Forensic Sciences
• Biology
• Mathematics
• Chemistry
• Marine Biology
• Computer Science
• Meteorology
• Engineering
• Oceanography
• Engineering Technology
• Physics
• Environmental Science

The STEM Scholars Experience

• Increases your knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics 
• Provides academic support throughout the year that is relevant to your course work
• Offers activities that engage you in workforce-related STEM experiences
• Provides financial support during the school year
• Gives you opportunities to meet with STEM professionals to discuss your goals and future plans
• Acquaints you with STEM careers

Being a STEM scholar can help you in many ways during your studies at Daytona State College, as well as when planning for the next step in your education. Participates in the program receive the following benefits:

• Stipend and resources for financial assistance
• Personalized academic advising tailored to your program at Daytona State; transfer advising to other four-year institutions upon graduation
• Social events and networking
• STEM conference attendance opportunities
• STEM faculty mentoring
• Visits to various Florida colleges and universities
