Sarah Kaplan

“Sarah Kaplan was a 2nd lieutenant in the Army Medical Corps who served under General Patton in the Battle of the Bulge as a nurse. She was discharged in [February] 1946. Her husband Samuel Kaplan was the first doctor to practice in Venice [Florida] and later became instrumental in starting the first hospital there. The Kaplans came to Venice in 1949 and for decades were the only Jews who lived there." (Florida Memory; Division of Library and Information Services).

Sarah Kaplan is one of the many women in history who gave their life to the service of others.
