What did you do prior to joining Daytona State College? Worked in administration at the Orlando campus of Palm Beach Atlantic University.
What professional projects are you working on right now? I’ve just developed a new Selected Topics course on Women in Management, and I’m looking forward to teaching it this fall. I’ve also been working on a research agenda to focus on the role of technology in dispute resolution.
What has been the most rewarding thing about your Daytona State College experience? I’ve already had so much opportunity to serve and grow. I’m thankful for my mentors here.
What is one goal you still hope to achieve in your career? I’d love to lead study abroad opportunities at some point (Not yet! With a 4 year old, 2 year old, and 2 month old at home, I’m a little place bound at the moment.). I’m focused on mediation research and gender in the workplace, with several writing projects in mind. I’ve always wanted to retire a provost. That’s more than one goal, but, hey, there could be time for all of it!
In life? I’d love to spend a year traveling with my family.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten? You don’t have a decision to make until you have a decision to make. That refrain helps me stay focused on only those decisions I actually MUST make and that are presented to me right now. Otherwise, I spend too much mental energy on hypotheticals and maybes.
One thing people are surprised to find out about me is: I’ve thought of three things I probably shouldn’t share online; however, I do live in Eustis. That’s far from campus. Surprise!
Last book read: A chapter from “My Father’s Dragon” at my daughter’s bedtime. For myself? “God Help the Child,” Toni Morrison’s new one.
If they could bottle your personality what would the label read? INTJ
Who are the four people in the history of the world you most admire? I don’t know about that, but I’d love to get authors Cornell West, Sarah Held Evans, Frank DeFord and Steve Brown in a room together. To me, they all model Greek arête (excellence) in their work and I’d love a little time with them.
The Daytona State of Mind to me means textbooks, flip flops and beach reading.See All Spotlights
