What did you do prior to joining Daytona State College? I moved here in 1990 and was working at a hotel on the beach.
What professional projects are you working on right now? I am presently working on Graduate Certification in Developmental Education.
What has been the most rewarding thing about your Daytona State College experience? Being able to encourage students who come into my office. I let them know that they can accomplish anything want if they apply themselves. After I tell them about my own educational journey, they can see what they can achieve if they work hard.
What is one goal you still hope to achieve in your career? I hope to teach on the college level.
In life? I want to continue developing each day to be a better husband, coworker and person.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten? The best advice was from my father. He told me that a man treats people like he wants to be treated if he wants the respect of others.
One thing people are surprised to find out about me is: I started my employment at Daytona State College as a custodian and took advantage of the educational opportunity afforded me to get where I am today.
Last book read: “Battlefield of the Mind” by Joyce Meyer
If they could bottle your personality what would the label read? “Accommodating” because I want to help students by meeting them where they are and helping them to move forward.
Who are the four people in the history of the world you most admire? Jesus, James Arthur Porter (my dad), Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and President Barack Obama.
The Daytona State of Mind to me means working hard at fulfilling your dreams to become successful in all of your endeavors.
