What did you do prior to joining Daytona State College? I have worked in higher education since 2006 in different areas, including assessment, recruiting, admissions counseling and the Registrar’s Office.
What professional projects are you working on right now? I currently serve on the Early Learning Coalition’s Quality Committee with a mission to make sure that the children in Volusia and Flagler counties have access to quality early childhood education. I believe all children have a right to an excellent foundation so they can succeed in life.
What has been the most rewarding thing about your Daytona State College experience? I LOVE working with the students, they are truly inspirational. I see them achieve their dreams even in the face of insurmountable odds and all their hard work is definitely worth it.
What is one goal you still hope to achieve in your career? I hope to finish my doctorate and teach someday.
In life? I would like to travel with my family and experience different cultures and places. Once my children are older and are better travel companions, of course.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten? “If you’re on time you’re actually late.” My business teacher in high school, Mr. Eckhoff, instilled a strong work ethic in all his students. I still hate being late!
One thing people are surprised to find out about me is: I have traveled to 48 states; I just need to visit Alaska and Maine.
Last book read: “Lean In” by Sheryl Sandberg
If they could bottle your personality what would the label read? Energetic, affable, upbeat and open minded.
The Daytona State of Mind to me means helping EVERYONE to achieve their goals. Come on people, we’ve got this!
