What did you do prior to joining Daytona State College? I was a chef and bartender at various restaurants, bars and hotels in Georgia and Daytona Beach.
What professional projects are you working on right now? I am currently president of the Career Employees Association at DSC. I am also an active member of several Learning Commons committees.
What has been the most rewarding thing about your Daytona State College experience? The opportunity to collaborate with a very diverse peer and student population.
What is one goal you still hope to achieve in your career? To never stop learning.
In life? To positively impact as many individuals as possible.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten? “There's no such thing as security in this life sweetheart, and the sooner you accept that fact, the better off you'll be. The person who strives for security will never be free. The person who believes she's found security will never reach paradise. What she mistakes for security is purgatory. You know what purgatory is, Gwendolyn? It's the waiting room, it's the lobby. Not only does she have the wrong libretto, she's stuck in the lobby where she can't see the show.” – Tom Robbins, Half Asleep in Frog Pajamas
One thing people are surprised to find out about me is: If I could, I would live in Rivendell, own a dragon-heartstring wand from Ollivanders, help the rebel alliance bring balance to the force and boldly go where no one has gone before!
Last book read: Personally: A Game of Thrones, by George R.R. Martin
To my daughter: Through the Looking Glass, by Lewis Carroll
If they could bottle your personality what would the label read? “100 Proof”
Who are the four people in the history of the world you most admire? Elizabeth I of England, William Wallace, Hans Christian Anderson and Audrey Hepburn
The Daytona State of Mind to me means succeeding - despite all odds, backgrounds and misconceptions, through collaboration with a diverse population of peers, educators and professionals.
