 09-10 Team

Season Outlook

The Daytona State Coaching staff welcomes back Alison Mohr and Chuck Baylor this Season. “I am excited to have the help of both coaches this season. “Coach Baylor brings a lot of experience to the staff and will be a great help to our hitters. Coach Mohr has always been a great mentor to our players and we are happy to have her out on the field to help out our infield. Mike Sokol will be back in the bullpen with our pitchers. He has had great success developing our pitchers over the years.”

The Lady Falcons return five position players from the 2010 season all of which were FCCAA All-Academic Team members last year. The returners include pitcher, Richelle Raley who will lead the Falcons from the mound this season and Kayla Denham (FCCAA Mid-Florida Conference Second Team) who will be taking charge in centerfield. Also returning are Kaley Brosky (FCCAA Mid-Florida All-Conference Second Team), Aubrey O’Brien, and Jordan Mangrich who will be working together on the infield. “Each of these girls are a threat on the base path as well with good speed and game smarts.”

The Falcons have several new faces on the roster. The talented group of incoming freshman brings athleticism and flexibility to our lineup as most are capable of playing more than one position. Although the majority are new to college athletics they are eager to take their game to the next level.

Offensively, the Falcons look to be stronger than last year. “We have some good hitters coming in this year that should help drive in our speedy sophomores.” New local talent this year includes Courtney Sherrill, a standout from Deltona H.S. Defensively; Alex Brown and Erin Wolfe will take turns behind the plate. Kelli Blanton will help cover the corners at first and third base and Marissa Blake will bring depth to our middle infield.

There are two new pitchers on the roster this year, Amber Reynolds and Celia Blome. “They can be an offensive threat as well and will complement our staff working behind our sophomore, Richelle Raley.”

Expectations for this upcoming year are high as our sophomores have a full year of experience and are driven to improve upon last year’s record. This year’s team should return to the state tournament surpassing last season’s finish and advance to the Atlantic District Championship as a force to reckon with.

The Coaching staff and all of our student-athletes take both academics and athletics together seriously. Academically we plan to maintain or exceed last year’s team GPA of 3.30. With team work and focus in the classroom and on the field we will succeed. The outlook is positive for another successful season at Daytona State College.
