2017 EMT AND PARAMEDIC APPLICATION: DOWNLOAD HERE

>>>APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR ALL SUMMER 2017 EMS CLASSES IS MARCH 1 OR UNTIL CLASSES ARE FULL<<<

>>IMPORTANT FOR ALL APPLICANTS<<  Applications will be taken until classes are full OR until the deadline date and time! We accept 30 students in the EMT day class and 24 in the EMT night class.  We accept 24 in the Paramedic class. Only completed applications will be accepted!  This includes receipts to prove you have submitted your background check/drug screen, and a completed physical with appropriate signatures. 

 

***THE SPRING 2017 EMT DAY AND NIGHT CLASS ARE NOW FULL! THE NEXT CLASSES WILL START IN MAY, 2017.

EMT classes begin in every semester with a day and evening session.  Applications are taken continually for all semesters 

All EMT Classes are located at the Advanced Technology College Campus in Daytona Beach.

All applicants for the EMT program must

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age by the first day of classes.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED® prior to the first day of classes (Dual Enrollment is not available for any EMS program)
  • Submit to fingerprints and have a clean nationwide background check
  • Submit to a 10 panel drug screening test and be free of all illegal substances
  • Have acceptable scores on the TABE or PERT examinations or meet exemptions
  • Meet all other requirements as written in the EMS Application Packet
  • Advanced Placement is NOT available for EMT classes

Paramedic classes begin in every semester.  Applications are taken continually for all semesters.         

All Paramedic Classes are located at the Advanced Technology College Campus in Daytona Beach.

IMPORTANT: All students applying for 2017 Paramedic programs MUST HAVE SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED AN EMT COURSE AND BE ELIGIBLE TO TAKE THE NREMT EXAM prior to applying for the Paramedic course. Proof of your course completion is required with your application. Applicants without their EMT certification must obtain it by the end of the first semester of the Paramedic program!

All applicants for Paramedic classes must:

  • Possess a valid Florida EMT Certification in good standing or completion of an EMT course prior to applying for the Paramedic program.
  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age by the first day of classes.
  • Have a high school diploma or GED® prior to the first day of classes (Dual Enrollment is not available for any EMS program)
  • Submit to fingerprints and have a clean nationwide background check (Must be received in the EMS Office prior to the first day of class.)

Additionally, the EMS Department reserves the right to adjust the amount of available seats in any EMS course due to availability of clinical space.

Florida Department of Health, Bureau of EMS

The Florida Department of Health, Bureau of EMS is located in Tallahassee. This is the state agency you apply with to obtain your state certifications. The Bureau is also responsible for enforcement of Florida Statute and Florida Administrative.

 

EMS Associate of Science Degree

Daytona State College offers an Associate of Science Degree in Emergency Medical Services.  You can access information from the college catalog.  **Please note that being enrolled in the academic AS degree program  DOES NOT allow you to practice in the state of Florida as an EMT and/or Paramedic**  The EMT and Paramedic certificate programs MUST be completed to allow you to sit for the state certification exams.

Accreditation / Approval Information

The Daytona State College EMS Program is approved by the Florida Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, as meeting all requirements of Florida Statute Section 401 and Florida Administrative Code 64-J-1 for EMS Training Centers in Florida.

The Daytona State College EMS Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs  (CAAHEP) upon the recommendation of the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP)

Daytona State College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to award associate and bachelor’s degrees.
