The Professional Development Opportunity Awards are administered by the Office of Professional Development and provide funding of up to $1,500.00 in support of significant professional development activities that directly support the employee’s contribution at Daytona State College. These awards are intended to support non-compulsory professional development activities that are not funded through other sources.
The final number of awards funded will be dependent upon the amount of funding requested in each application. Three award cycles will be offered each year (fall, spring, and summer).
Potential activities include, but are not limited to developing or redesigning curricula, attending and/or presenting at professional meetings and conferences, researching best practices in the field, participating in continuing education courses and college-credit courses (non-degree seeking).
To be eligible to receive a Professional Development Opportunity Award, employees must be regular, full-time and not currently under a probationary period.
Professional Development Opportunity Award applications will be accepted anytime throughout the year. Applications are reviewed by committee three times annually, following the beginning of the summer, fall, and spring semesters. Applications can be delivered in hard copy to the Office of Professional Development; attention John Brady, Daytona Beach campus, Building 100, Room 212 or electronically sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. Applications received after the posted deadline will be retained and scored at the close of the next PDOA review cycle.
Faculty and staff are limited to receive one Professional Development Opportunity Award per fiscal year.
Applications should describe the professional development activity for which funding is requested and should clearly articulate how participation in this activity will support the college’s mission and the outcomes of the applicant’s respective department. In addition, applications should include a dissemination plan which clearly describes the strategy for sharing with the larger college community the knowledge gained from participation in the professional development activity. The professional development activity for which funding is requested should take place during the current fiscal year.
Applications must be signed by the applicant, their direct supervisor/chair, and be accompanied by a line item budget identifying the costs associate with the requested funding along with supporting documentation (hotel quotes, airfare quotes, conference registration quotes, etc.).

Perkins requests utilize the same application, but must also follow the procedure outlined here. Perkins requests will be reviewed by the Perkins Committee and scored using the rubric provided here.
Note: Faculty members requesting Staff and Program Development funding through Academic Affairs can use the same PD Funding Application available above. Please be sure to identify the funding source as the Academic Affairs Professional Development Award.
