Photography at Daytona State College
For more than 40 years, Daytona State College graduates have taken their place among
the leading photographers of the nation. In the early years, few programs in the country
were able to offer the range and depth of instruction that provided the foundation
for these stellar careers. The department grew into the largest, most comprehensive
photography program in the southeast.
Daytona State offers the technical instruction and theoretical knowledge in photography to assist graduates in successfully entering the commercial and editorial fields. Coursework covers traditional and digital photography as well as the medium’s history and aesthetics to prepare photographers as artists and visual communicators.
Our program can be completed in less than two years and some program specific courses you will take include: Color Materials and Processes; Digital Imaging; History and Aesthetics of Photography; Photographic Materials and Processes; Professional Photography Business Practices; and Studio Lighting. Workshops, lectures and guest artists enhance the intense and progressive curriculum, giving students opportunities to explore the world of photography.
Earn your A.S. and B.S. degree
Successful completion of the Associate of Science (A.S.) degree can lead to a seamless transfer to a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in photography through a partnership with the University of Central Florida. All classes needed to complete the bachelor’s degree program may be taken in shared facilities on the Daytona State Campus with cross-level instruction by faculty from both institutions.
Given our new state-of-the-art facilities and close relationship with the college’s Southeast Museum of Photography, Daytona State is an exciting place to explore and develop personal visions. The Southeast Museum of Photography provides unique learning opportunities to examine exhibitions by master photographers and participate in special events with many lectures and classroom visits by guest artists.
Photography flourishes on the “World’s Most Famous Beach.” Daytona State meets the
challenges of a rapidly changing creative environment with a program that stresses
the fundamental aspects of photography from which to grow into a myriad of photographic
expertise and the highest level of technical proficiency and professional judgment
for providing a broad understanding of the techniques, ideas and skills needed in
the profession today.
