Evening in Tuscany a smashing success

An “Evening in Tuscany” proved to be a smashing success, according to the 300-plus guests who filled the Hosseini Center Friday evening, Sept. 21. The College Foundation’s annual fund-raising gala tapped culinary faculty and students to create a memorable dining and wine-tasting evening.

“What a magnificent setting for such a starry-night gala,” said President Carol Eaton. “The décor, the amazing food selections and specialty wine – I think we outdid ourselves this year. Congratulations go to our outstanding students and award-winning chefs in the Mori Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary Management, with Dean Costa Magoulis’ stellar job overseeing the food preparation and presentation. Let me also say what an excellent job our dedicated facilities and campus safety crew did – they made sure everything ran smoothly and our guests enjoyed parking and shuttle assistance.”

The college honored long-time supporter Jim Gardner of Palm Coast, a past Board member and chair. Following an introduction by well-known local entrepreneur L. Gale Lemerand, Gardner received the college’s Falcon Award from Dr. Eaton and Foundation Chair Sally Gillespie for his long service to Daytona State.

The event succeeded, the president noted, thanks to all the volunteers - from greeters to those who handled signage and registration to staff who oversaw the silent auction. "The volunteers and staff made sure all aspects were covered - congratulations to all," said Kay Burniston, executive director of the Foundation.
