DAYTONA BEACH, FL (June 10, 2010) – Selling its products locally and nationally to both commercial outlets and direct to consumers, the DeLand Bakery and Natural Market is gearing up for expansion with the assistance of a $1.8 million loan. Helping them to secure the additional financial resources was the Small Business Development Center at Daytona State College.
According to Certified Business Analyst and SBDC Manager, Doris Bernal, “Many businesses do not realize we provide free business counseling including financial planning and assistance with loan applications. In 2009, we secured $7 million in capital formation for local business. The additional resources for the DeLand Bakery and Natural Market’s business will position them for expanding their facility as well as creating up to 10 new jobs over the next year.”
Alfredo Avila, purchased the bakery business in 1998 and in 2001 expanded to DeLand Bakery and Natural Market at its current location at 933 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand. According to Avila “The SBDC at Daytona State College was instrumental in helping us get our business plan and loan application prepared. Doris’s fluency in Spanish and her strong business and banking background made the difference in us being able to work with the local banks.”
Specializing in organic and certified-organic bakery products, the expansion plans include increasing the location size from 13,500 sq ft to 42,000 sq ft., purchasing additional equipment to increase productivity in order to meet national demand, and develop the health and beauty offerings to include a Spa treatment room and offer health seminars to customers.
