DAYTONA BEACH, FL (July 9, 2009) - Rising 6th through 9th grade students are invited to participate in the first Daytona Racing Challenge (pdf flyer) presented by the Center for Community & Professional Education at Daytona State College in conjunction with International Speedway Corporation, Florida Power & Light, Florida High Tech Corridor and Motorsports Daytona Beach.
The week-long camp at the Advanced Technology College combines science, technology, engineering, math and teamwork to design and modify radio control race cars. Using 1/10th scale models of actual race cars, teams will compete to drive their cars to the winner's circle.
First day of the Daytona Racing Challenge will be Monday, July 20 and continues daily through Friday, July 24. Camp starts promptly at 9 a.m. each day and finishes at 3 p.m. The camp culminates in a Racing Challenge on Friday, July 24 at noon - parents are invited to attend.
Cost is $149 per student. Camp participants should bring a bag lunch, water bottle and a winning attitude daily. Camp participants will gain a solid foundation in building and racing skills; a valuable introduction to competing in a popular international hobby as well as new friendships and an unforgettable summer experience.
The Advanced Technology College is located at 1770 Technology Blvd., Daytona Beach (1/2-mile north of LPGA Blvd on Williamson Blvd.)
