"The Comedy of Errors" opens July 21 at News-Journal Center

 

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (July 9, 2009) - With nightly performances scheduled for July 21 through 25 and a matinee July 26, the Daytona State College School of Music, Entertainment and Art presents, "The Comedy of Errors," by William Shakespeare.

 

Directed by Robert Arcuri, "The Comedy of Errors" tells the story of two sets of identical twins that were accidentally separated at birth. A series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities lead to wrongful beatings, a near-incestuous seduction, arrests and accusations of infidelity, theft, madness, and demonic possession.

 

Opening night is Tuesday, July 21. Starting promptly at 7:30 p.m., the play will be performed in the Gillespy Theater at the News-Journal Center. Nightly performances continue through Saturday, July 25. The play concludes with a matinee performance, Sunday, July 26 at 3 p.m.

 

Admission is free to Daytona State College and Volusia County students; $5 for all others. Tickets are available in advance at the Daytona State Box Office located in the Theater Center (bldg. 220) on the Daytona Beach Campus at 1200 W. Int'l Speedway Blvd. Tickets also will be sold the day of the performance at the News-Journal Center Box Office, which opens one-hour prior to performance. The News-Journal Center is located at 221 N. Beach Street, Daytona Beach.

 

The performing arts programs at Daytona State prepare students for a future in music, drama and dance while also providing entertainment opportunities for the community through a variety of events produced each semester. Proceeds from tickets are used to support the Performing Arts Scholarship program at Daytona State.
