Falcon athletes to host dance-off event

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (March 10, 2010) – Daytona State College’s student-athlete based Community Service Leadership Committee invites the community to a social meet and greet with The Arc of Volusia. Scheduled for Saturday, April 10, starting at 7 p.m. in the L. Gale Lemerand Center (bldg. 310). The event will feature a dance-off and hula-hoop contest. Hollywood attire is a must!

The Community Service Leadership Committee was established in Fall of 2003 with the purpose of organizing what was an existing concept into a formal process. Members of the committee consist of one freshman and one sophomore from each team. The CSLC’s mission is to 1) provide charitable and/or monetary assistance to nonprofit organizations in need of a helping hand and 2) promote awareness of the Daytona State College student-athletes’ involvement in charitable activities/programs in the Daytona Beach community.

The Arc of Volusia serves approximately 250 Volusia County adults with developmental disabilities. The Deland and Daytona Beach training centers each serve about 100 individuals providing self-help skill acquisition programs, and work skill development and sheltered workshop programs.

Daytona State College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Florida Community College Athletics Association Mid-Florida Conference. The Falcons currently compete in seven Division I NJCAA sports including Men's and Women's Basketball, Baseball, Fast-Pitch Softball, Women's Golf and Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving. The main focus of the Daytona State Falcons athletic program is to prepare student-athletes for success in life. This is accomplished through strong academic programs and support services coupled with quality coaching and athletic facilities.
