Auditions announced for Daytona State productions of Anna in the Tropics and Dearly Departed

DAYTONA BEACH, FL (August 10, 2010) - The Daytona State College School of Music, Entertainment and Art announces upcoming auditions for ANNA IN THE TROPICS and DEARLY DEPARTED. Nilo Cruz’s Pulitzer Prize winning play Anna in the Tropics, takes place in Ybor City, a section of Tampa, Florida. This Tony Award nominated play examines the lives of Cuban immigrants working in a cigar factory in the 1930s. Dearly Departed revolves around the Turpin family living in the Baptist backwoods of the Bible Belt. Despite their earnest efforts to pull themselves together for their father’s funeral, the Turpin’s hilarious problems keep overshadowing the solemn occasion. This drop dead funny comedy has delighted audiences across the southern states for the last decade.

Auditions will be held on the Daytona Beach Campus, bldg. 230, in the Goddard Theater on Wednesday, September 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. and Thursday, September 2, from 7 to 10 p.m. Come prepared to improvise and do cold readings.

Production dates for Anna in the Tropics are Oct. 15 through 24 and production dates for Dearly Departed are Nov. 10 through 14. For ticketing and additional information about performance schedule visit www.DaytonaState.edu/TheArts after August 20, 2010.
