Course Descriptions

Computer Skills Testing for electronic medical record (EMR) charting.  Arranged by appointment during April/May/June –Test your skills of Microsoft Windows operating system, and basic computer file management which is the foundation that (EMR) software programs are built on.  Employers are expecting these skills before employment.  Use this computer lab time to evaluate your skills.  1 hour $30  New Course!

Computer Training I and II for electronic medical record (EMR) charting– Arranged by appointment during May & June- Gain the skills you need to learn before employment.  Be ready for the hours of training your employer will provide on their specific software EMR.  Training I and II will equip you.  Each course is 1 hour $30 each.  Testing and training offers no continuing education credits. Both taught by Michiko Gosney, Assistant Director, Academic Support Center  Daytona State College   New Course!

40 Hour Professional Guardianship Course- April 13, 14, 20, 21, and 27Course required to become a professional guardian in the State of Florida.  Start your own business!  

Wellness Coaching for the Healing Arts – April 18 Learn tools to help your clients/patients comply with recommended healing therapies or behavioral changes

The Developing Fetus:  Teratogens, Genetics and Anomalies – April 19  Deltona campus – Learn reasons for abnormalities, some preventable, so professionals can assist patients and their families.

Emergency Department Nursing Assessment Skills Lab- April 20 Learn the skills, tests and procedures used by emergency room nurses. Hands on opportunity.

Biofeedback and Autogenics- April 25 –Learn these two practices that are effective in treatment of diseases and stress.

Caring in a Violent World- April 25 – Anger and anxiety are all around us. Learn how to help move people/clients/patients from these behaviors to more purposeful solutions.

Assisting Persons With Limited Vision- April 26 Lecture, demonstration and video presentation showing how health care providers can best assist clients who are low vision or blind.  Full scholarships, including manual, to those in health care.

Three Part Doula Workshop – May 9, 10, 11 and 12 Love working with babies and Mothers-To-Be?  Supplement your income with a new career/calling.  Begin the steps needed to become a Doula (a coach for pregnant women and their expectant families).  Attend these 3 workshops during 3 ½ days that have been approved by DONA International with certified instructors.  Health care professionals welcome but no previous medical training required.  Open to interested public.  Workshops sponsored by 9 Months and Beyond and the Daytona State College Institute for Health Services.

HIV/AIDS – June 11 Part I provides the facts of the disease Part II provides the personal journey of local individuals who belong to Positive Champions and gives the global view of the disease in Africa. Part I required for attendance at Part II. 

Group Therapy Skills – June 14 Develop tools and techniques to prepare and facilitate successful group therapy sessions in a variety of settings

Guided Imagery – June 18 - This technique allows the client/patient to enter a deep state of relaxation, then directs their imagination towards a specific goal.  The experience often results in physiological, cognitive and behavioral changes that can help overcome obstacles and move lives forward.

Open Skills Lab- June 19 Use this 3 hour lab to refresh your nursing skills.  Instructor will help students with IV starts and pumps, wound care, foley catheters, trach care, medication and insulin administration, N/G tubes, physical assessment, and other requested topics.   All skills supplies provided.
