Professional Tutor Position Description

TRiO Talent Search

Daytona State College is seeking a Professional Tutor with the ability to tutor in the core high school subjects and SAT/ACT preparation for our TRiO Talent Search program. This position is available through Lyneer Staffing Solutions. Applicants who are hired will not be employees of Daytona State College.

Minimum Qualifications: This position requires an Associates' degree with an emphasis on either Mathematics, Language Arts, and/or Science. One (1) year teaching, graduate internship, or related experience in tutoring in one of the respective subjects is preferred. Experience working at the postsecondary level is desired. Bilingual Candidates Preferred.

Responsibilities: The successful candidates will provide academic assistance to current middle and high school students enrolled in the TRiO Educational Talent Search program. This position requires travel to designated tutoring locations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The successful candidate must be able to relate to and work with middle and high school students individually and/or in small groups, exercise good judgment, and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. He or she will exercise strong organizational skills, exhibit an eagerness to learn and be of service, and promote positive student, faculty, and staff relations.

Salary: $14.50/hr (up to 15 hrs/week)

Working Hours and Location: Hours are flexible based on tutoring needs and may require evening and Weekend hours. Position will be based on the Daytona Campus but will be asked to tutor on the DeLand, or Deltona campuses; area middle and high schools, or public facilities, as deemed necessary, depending on tutoring demands. This positon will provide services every Friday from 8am – 4pm to the students at T. Dewitt Taylor Middle High School in Pierson FL in addition to other locations as needed.

Learning Specialist – 2 Positions (AM/PM)
Adult Education – Deltona Campus and Deland Campus

Daytona State College is seeking a Learning Specialist for our School of Adult Education beginning Fall 2018 semester. This position is available through Lyneer Staffing Solutions. Applicants who are hired will not be employees of Daytona State College.

Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Computer Science, Information Technology or a closely related field. Preference will be given to applicants who have experience with an automated environment and student services.

Responsibilities: This position serves as a student and teacher resource in the Adult Education Computer Lab on both the Deltona and Deland Campuses. The individual will provide assistance with access to Adult Education software and provide technical assistance on maneuvering within the programs, maintain the databases within the programs, and assist instructors as they utilize the programs. Additionally, the individual will assist Adult Education students through tutoring as they utilize the computer programs to enhance their learning.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: The successful candidate will have the ability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously; the ability to organize and prioritize work assignments; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Additionally, the candidate will be detail oriented and very comfortable in a computer environment. The individual must be able to work assigned days at both Deltona and Deland Campuses.

Salary: $15.00 per hour/ 16-20 hours per week AM position
$15.00 per hour/ 12 hours per week PM position

Campus Safety Officer
Campus Safety Department

1st and 2nd Shifts Available

Daytona State College is looking for Campus Safety Officers for 1st & 2nd shifts. These positions are available through Lyneer-Staffing Employment Services. Applicants who are hired will not be employees of Daytona State College.


Qualifications: This position requires a high school diploma or GED and formal training or special courses equivalent to satisfactory completion of one year of college and a minimum of six (6) months related work experience. This position also requires a valid Florida Driver's License and a Florida Class "D" Security License. CPR certification required to be attained within six (6) months from start date.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be responsible for performing routine patrols to provide security coverage and escort services; investigating and reporting accidents, theft, vandalism, and incidents occurring on Daytona State College property; performing building and room lockdowns and open ups; responding to incidents, accidents, and emergencies on the campus and assures the prompt submission of complete and accurate reports. Additionally, this position will be responsible for observing and ensuring resolution of safety hazards; providing directions and information to students and visitors; working dispatch, including answering phones, dispatching calls, issuing ID cards for students and employees and monitoring alarm systems and providing key assists, jump starts and car unlocks for employees, students and visitors.

Salary: $8.80/hour

Writing Specialist
DSC-UCF Writing Center Search

Daytona State College is seeking a part-time Writing Specialist for our Writing Center. This position is available through Lyneer Staffing Solutions. Applicants who are hired will not be employees of Daytona State College.

Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in English or related area. Must have (2) years of related work experience tutoring and/or teaching and have strong academic and professional writing skills. The successful candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to respond to student concerns with empathy, patience and creativity.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will provide academic assistance to Daytona State and UCF students. This position requires travel to designated tutoring locations.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
The successful candidate must be able to provide direct writing support to students, faculty, staff, and alumni through one-on-one tutoring and workshops. He or she must maintain records of writing support and assist in the creation and implementation of writing related supplemental materials to be used by Writing Center staff.

Salary:
$15.00 per hour

Hours per week:
25-35 hours

Working Hours:
Part-time

Writing Specialists may be asked to tutor on the Daytona, Flagler/Palm-Coast, DeLand or Deltona campuses, depending on tutoring demands at the different sites.

Positions are available through Lyneer Staffing Employment Services. Applicants who are hired will not be employees of Daytona State College.  Successful candidates may be considered for possible full-time employment if/when positions become available at Daytona State College.

Applicants must have a high school diploma or GED; a minimum of one (1) year recent and verifiable commercial building cleaning work experience.  These positions will work a flexible schedule, which includes weekends and/or holidays.  Duties include, but not limited to: cleaning restrooms, classrooms, hallways, common areas; sweep, mop, vacuum floors and carpets; dust window sills and furniture; clean windows; empty trash; and all other duties as assigned.  Direct exposure to indoor and outdoor temperatures, hot and cold; must be able to reach, stoop, push, pull, lift, kneel, twist/move from side-to-side and carry on a reoccurring basis.

Applicants must have own transportation in reporting to work at any specified Daytona State College Campus location.  Must be able to operate a computer to electronically record work hours.

Hourly Wage: $8.17
