Honors College Faculty

To teach Honors College classes, faculty members consult with their department chairs and then submit a request to teach an Honors College class, a copy of a proposed class syllabus to the Honors College Chair, and a brief narrative of how they believe an Honors College section of the class would differ from a non Honors College section.

Final decisions on what classes will be taught as Honors College classes, and which instructors will be permitted to teach an Honors College class will be made by the Honors College Course and Faculty Review Committee. Honors College students, staff, and other faculty members often identify professors with exceptional teaching skills and recommend them to teach an Honors College class.

The Honors College encourages its students to be involved in the development of possible Honors College classes, and any student who is interested in seeing a particular class taught by a certain faculty person should consult with the Honors College Chair for more information. The Honors College administration actively seeks input from students, faculty, and staff to improve the Honors College experience!

The Honors College Admissions Committee, composed of Honors College faculty gives counsel regarding Honors College activities, programs, and issues to Honors College administrators through periodic meetings during the academic year.

Honors College students have an opportunity to evaluate every Honors College class at the end of each long semester, and a number of Honors College programs have additional separate evaluations for participants. Honors College administrators and staff encourage students and others to provide feedback about their Honors College experiences and are available for individual meetings.

HONORS COLLEGE AMBASSADORS:

The Honors College Ambassadors are a group of Honors College student volunteers who serve as the "front line" for information about the Honors College. Each semester, ambassadors meet with prospective students, parents, administration, and campus visitors to provide a student perspective on the Honors College experience. Ambassadors are available for appointments throughout the academic year. To schedule an appointment with an Honors College Ambassador, or for information on becoming an Honors College Ambassador please call (386) 506 3337.

HONORS COLLEGE ADVISING:

All Honors College students are required to be advised by their Honors College Advisor (Committee Chairperson) prior to registration each semester. This advisement is in addition to the advisement received from the department of your major. Generally, your Honors College advising should occur after your departmental advising. Honors College advisement helps ensure you are making progress toward completion of your Honors College requirements, as well as helping to ensure you have access to the latest information about available courses and other opportunities.
If you fail to follow your advisor’s guidance and discover you are lacking requirements to graduate with an Honors College designation, it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to obtain overrides or other exceptions.
