Presidential Ambassadors are the best and brightest of all Daytona State College students. They are not only members of the esteemed Honors College, they are the elite of that group. Presidential Ambassadors are excellent students, dynamic, goal-oriented individuals, and are the future leaders of our community.
Presidential Ambassador Honors College Scholarship:
Available for Honors College students who have completed their first year of academic study and will enroll full time (at least 12 credit hours per semester) during their final two semesters (Fall and Spring).
Scholars will be chosen based on the following criteria: an exceptional academic record and an ability to display a history of excellence in community involvement, entrepreneurship and/or enhancing creativity in the lives of those around them.
Minimum requirements:
- Must be enrolled in the Honors College at Daytona State College
- Must participate in a formal interview process with the Presidential Ambassador selection committee
- Must submit a statement of purpose
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must maintain a minimum 3.60 GPA ** The selection committee reserves the right to waive the minimum GPA requirement should the applicant display exceptional characteristics exemplary of a Presidential Ambassador**

Meet the 2011-2012 Presidential Ambassadors
Roman Balmakov
- Born in St. Petersburg, Russia; emigrated to America in 1998.
- Lived in Cleveland, OH for 8 years and graduated from Beachwood High School. Also studied philosophy, art, and math at Cuyahoga Community College.
- Studying International Human Rights Law with an emphasis on China to try to expose and stop the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
- Founder of Daytona State College's Falun Dafa outdoor meditation club.
- "When things become difficult, and hard to endure, there's something that I never forget: 'You face the pain of discipline, or you face the pain of regret.'"
Andrea Batsleer
- Graduated from Spruce Creek High School with a 4.0 GPA while being dual enrolled at Daytona State her senior year.
- Ultimately plans to work as a nurse practitioner, by graduating from Daytona State College with her Associates Degree, followed by attending the University of Central Florida.
- During her limited free time, she is either fishing or working on antique motorcycles.
- "I was fortunate to be chosen as one of the Presidential Ambassadors. This gave me the opportunity to meet many important leaders of the College as well as the community. I made many new acquaintances through this program."
Dantrell Johnson
- Graduated from Deltona High School.
- Currently finishing his AA degree at Daytona State College. Plans to earn his Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Daytona State College.
- Loves to help the young people of today by working at Four Townes YMCA, tutoring at Deltona High School, and officiating basketball at the high school level.
- Also plays keyboard for church and substitute teaches at Deltona Lakes Elementary and Deltona High.
- "The Honors College has been a great opportunity in my life because I have met important community members and made lifelong friends."
Tran Nguyen
- Was born in Vietnam. Has been living in the United States for nine years.
- Graduated high school from the Adult Education Program at Daytona State College.
- Currently finishing her AA degree at Daytona State College. Plans to earn her Bachelor's degree in Biology, followed by attending the School of Medicine at the University of Central Florida.
- During her limited free time, she enjoys kayaking, going to the park, spending time with friends and family.
- "I was fortunate to be chosen as one of the Presidential Ambassadors. This gave me the opportunity to meet many important leaders of the College as well as attending many special events. I made new acquaintances through this program. I wish all future Honors students' the best of luck in completing their goal career here at Daytona State College."
