October 12, 2014 – Daytona Beach, FL: The Daytona State Women’s Golf Team posted a solid tournament by finishing 2nd in the LPGA/Xavier Invitational at LPGA International Golf Club in Daytona Beach, FL.
With a team score of 895 (301-296-298), the Lady Falcons finished 2nd, 8 shots behind tournament winner Morehead State University. The Lady Falcons finished 6 shots ahead of 3rd place team, Campbell University. University of North Florida (916) and Boston College (924) rounded out the top five.
The Falcons were led by sophomore Tiffany Chan who posted an impressive 14 stroke victory with scores of 67-66-72. Chan’s dominating performance included a 66 during the 2nd round which was her personal best on the Hills course. Chan, who missed the first event of the season because she was in Korea competing in the Asian games had 17 birdies over the course of the three day event.
Other finishers for Daytona State include freshman Ji Sun Kang who finished in a tie for 8th with a 54 hole total of 225 (76-76-73), sophomore Whitney Stevenson who finished tied for 23rd at 231 (79-76-76), freshman Kathleen Duperval finished tied for 29th at 234 (79-78-77), Michelle Hawkins came in 49th at 245 (88-77-80) and sophomore Courtney Cobb tied for 55th at 248 (84-85-79).
When asked how she felt about the team’s performance, Coach Laura Brown commented “Overall I am pleased with our play and thought this was a very solid finish. They played consistently and should be proud of their finish. We are happy to have Tiffany back in the line-up and her play these past few days was outstanding.”
The Lady Falcons return to competition October 13th and 14th at the JU Classic at Marsh Landing Country Club in Jacksonville, FL.
