All full-time and adjunct faculty members must receive adequate training to use Falcon Online, including both technical and pedagogical skills.

D2L101: Introduction to Falcon Online

  • Provides basic learning management system instruction.
  • Fully online training (3 hours).
  • All online assignments and assessments for this workshop must be verified as successful before a certificate of completion will be issued.
  • All faculty are required to complete D2L101.

D2L102: Advanced Falcon Online and Online Pedagogy

  • D2L102 can be taken upon successful completion of D2L101.
  • It builds on the skills learned in D2L101.
  • Fully online training (6 hours).
  • All online assignments and assessments for this workshop must be verified as successful before a certificate of completion will be issued.
  • All faculty teaching hybrid and/or online courses are required to complete D2L102.

Substantive Interaction

    • This training defines the federal guidelines for substantive interaction.
    • Demonstrates ways to include substantive interaction in online and hybrid courses using various tools in Falcon Online.
    • Fully online training (3 hours).
    • All faculty teaching hybrid and/or online courses are required to complete Substantive Interaction.

Universal Design for Learning/Accessibility Training

    • Provides a set of principles that will ensure all individuals have equal opportunities to learn.
    • Complete hands-on activities learning and applying universal design principles.
    • Fully online training (7 hours).
    • All online faculty are required to complete Universal Design for Learning/Accessibility Training.

Learning Object Repository Training

    • Learn how to publish, share, edit, and embed materials in the new learning object repository in Falcon Online.
    • Fully online training (1 hour).
    • All online faculty are required to complete Learning Object Repository Training.

Faculty Toolset 101

    • Create, manage, and distribute quality screen-cast video content to our students, which meet accessibility requirements.
    • Learn how to use a script template.
    • Fully online training (3 hour).
    • All online faculty are required to complete the Faculty Toolset 101.

Faculty Toolset 102

    • Learn live video capture concepts and become a novice videographer.
    • Capture live events and informational sessions to embed into online courses.
    • Topics include preproduction steps, camera usage, lighting, and audio capture techniques.
    • Fully online training (2 hour).
    • All online faculty are required to complete the Faculty Toolset 102.

Applying the Quality Matters Rubric

    • Learn about the underlying principles behind the nationally acclaimed Quality Matters (QM) Rubric and the critical elements of the QM quality assurance process.
    • This training must be completed within a two week time period.
    • Fully online training (20 hour).
    • All online faculty are required to complete the Applying the Quality Matters Rubric.
