Issue/Opportunity– The E-Text will require some form of E-Reader Platform software that will allow the user to read, manipulate and integrate the e-text with the capabilities of the hardware/device, thus taking advantage of the interactive capabilities of the e-text.
Topic and Potential Actions – Investigate and recommend both an E-Reader Platform independent of the device and within the device (as a function of the device), as both will be necessary to maximize student choice in hardware. Determine the necessary functionality of the E-Reader Platform software to maximize e-text capabilities and integrate with the Colleges LMS.
Necessity for formal RFP, RFI or Bid - The E-Reader Platform Sub-Committee must determine if it recommends that the College seek formal responses (RFP, RFI, Bid, etc.) from the providers of E-Reader software and/or a part of the Hardware / Device RFP.
Implementation Timing and Critical Path - Other Issue/Opportunity that need to be resolved prior to or in conjunction with: Hardware/Device issues and Printing issues.
Status - The e-reader research has provided the Committee with an abundance of solutions and options. The Committee conducted meeting with numerous e-reader providers and publishers who are most interested in becoming involved with the E-Text Project.
