You can achieve your dream of becoming a teacher by enrolling at Daytona State College. The college now offers two Bachelor of Science degrees in Education: Elementary Education and exceptional Student Education.
This new program incorporates an innovative curriculum with cutting-edge technology. Our experienced faculty is dedicated to providing students with the essential knowledge and strategies needed to become a successful teacher.
B.S. in Elementary Education
Elementary teachers help mold young minds! They are responsible for developing lessons that provide instruction in all subject areas including reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Daily, these teachers experience the excitement of watching children learn.
The B.S. program in Elementary Education will prepare students to design, develop and implement effective classroom management techniques and instructional strategies. While enrolled in the B.S. program, Daytona State College students will spend many hours in the area schools working with children in Kindergarten through sixth grade and practicing the instructional strategies learned in class.
B.S. in Exceptional Student Education
Graduates of the B.S. in Exceptional Student Education will be certified to teach students from Kindergarten through twelfth grade whose exceptionalities range from severe disabilities to gifted. Daytona State College instructors will provide the students in the B.S. program with the necessary resources to develop and teach lessons that accommodate the needs of individual students.
Exceptional Education teachers enjoy the challenge of helping each child or adolescent reach his/her full potential. These teachers also work with the families of students as well as the community to provide exceptional students with rich opportunities for learning. Furthermore, these teachers are responsible for providing instruction in multiple subject areas in elementary or secondary schools.
B.S. in Secondary Education Mathematics
The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Secondary Education Mathematics program is
designed to prepare individuals to teach mathematics grades 6-12 (middle and
high school). Upon graduation, students will meet the mandated state
teaching requirements, including teacher certification exams.
Program Highlights: The BS in secondary education program includes courses in teaching students with exceptionalities, reading competency, classroom management, assessment and integrated approaches to teaching methodologies at the middle and high school levels. Graduates of the program will have the full ESOL endorsement. Students will observe teachers in the field, teach lessons through the practicum courses, and complete a full-time teaching internship in their final semester. Courses are offered for full and part time students, with blended technology components
B.S. in Secondary Eduction Biology
The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Secondary Education Biology program is designed
to prepare individuals to teach biology grades 6-12 (middle and high school). Upon graduation, students will meet the mandated

B.S. in Secondary Earth/Space Science Education
The Bachelor of Science (BS) in Secondary Earth/Space
Science Education program is designed to prepare individuals for a Florida
professional teaching certificate at the
middle and high school levels in Florida.
This program provides students with a comprehensive overview of
interacting earth systems including hydrosphere and atmosphere, as well as an
understanding of the evolution of the earth’s physical and biological systems
through time.
The BS in secondary education program includes science courses offered in the program including those in astronomy, meteorology, oceanography, ecology, geology, and botany. Students will observe teachers in the field, teach lessons through the practicum courses, and complete a full-time teaching internship in their final semester. Courses are offered for full and part time students, with blended technology components where applicable.
