My Daytona State

How it Works

More than 1,000 colleges, universities, community colleges, and agencies now offer TRIO Programs in America. TRIO funds are distributed to institutions through competitive grants. The Student Support Services/TRIO Program is an integral part of Daytona State College’s effort to improve student success. During the current grant cycle, DSC’s program is funded to provide a range of specialized services to support the educational needs of 160 students.

What Does the Student Support Services Program Offer?

The Student Support Services program (SSSP) provides a comprehensive program of support to a limited number of Daytona State College students who, upon application, are determined to have an academic need and are either first-generation college students (parents did not graduate with a baccalaureate degree), low income and/or disabled.

Together the SSSP team delivers a program of support that includes:

  • Academic Advising
Advisors work one-on-one with students to improve academic performance and successfully complete their goals. They also help with registration and degree audits.
  • Cultural Enrichment Trips
SSS participants will get to experience free cultural enrichment trips which may include free transportation, shows, and food (if applicable).
  • Financial Aid and Scholarships
Advisors are available to assist students with questions and concerns arising from financial services. Students also are given access to information about scholarships and grants.
  • Lending Library
The SSS Program provides SSS participants with two lending libraries to borrow books for their classes. As long as we have the books, it’s free!
  • Peer Mentoring Program
Former and current Student Support Services participants provide mentoring and support to help SSS students adjust to college life.
  • Personal and Career Counseling
Advisors assist students in finding solutions to personal problems and developing an awareness of educational and career goals.
  • SSS LOT (Leaders of Tomorrow) Club
The SSS LOT Club’s mission is to promote educational excellence, by fostering a sense of community through positive personal and professional relationships and by providing a strong support structure to reinforce the overall goals and objectives of TRiO while building character, integrity, and vision for our leaders of tomorrow.  To join the club, you must pay $8 dues each semester.
  • Summer Bridge Experience
This program is designed to provide students with a head start into the college experience, create a sense of community, learn tips on good study habits, and gain information and support services to stay in school.
  • Supplemental Instruction
Program staff will refer appropriate students to the College’s Supplemental Instruction program, which provides extra weekly instruction focusing on more difficult subjects.
  • Transfer Assistance
Campus visits, guidance and information are provided to prepare students to successfully transfer to and graduate from a four-year institution.
  • TRiO Grant Aid
SSS's Scholarship is available to those who qualify.
  • Tutoring
Trained peer and professional tutors are available to provide help with one-on-one and/or group tutoring in several subject areas.  In our tutoring lab, you will find an environment where students feel valued and supported.
  • Workshops
Numerous workshops are provided to enhance the academic skills of Student Support Services participants.
  • Weekly Email Updates
Weekly emails (sent to your FalconMail) will be sent to each student to give updates about scholarship opportunities, workshops, cultural enrichment activities, campus visits, club meetings, and other important dates and events.
