What kinds of writing can I bring?
We help with all kinds of writing--academic, professional, or personal--from essays to job resumes to scholarship applications to creative writing!
What should I bring with me to the Writing Center?
Bring any assignment sheets, notes, or research for the project, along with anything you've already written. If you have a USB travel drive, bring that, too. Don’t worry if you’re still planning the project and haven’t written anything yet—the Writing Center loves to help you brainstorm.
Can I come in if I’m just getting started and haven’t written anything yet?
Absolutely. In fact, it's recommended—that way you can get feedback on your paper as you write it.
Do I have to make an appointment?
Appointments are recommended but not required. If you make an appointment, you are guaranteed that someone will be available to work with you when you’re ready to come in.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Appointments can be scheduled for all campuses by calling 386.506.3297.
How many appointments can I have per week?

I live close to a regional campus and would like an appointment on a day that the regional location is not open. Can I still make an appointment?
Absolutely. You can set up an online appointment with the Writing Center from that regional campus’s ASC. You will need to bring an electronic copy of your writing to the ASC for that session.
I am taking an online class and do not travel to any of DSC’s campuses – can I still work with the Writing Center?
Of course! You can have full consultations with a Writing Center Learning Specialist from any computer with an internet connection. You will need to have an electronic copy of any assignment or piece of writing you want to work on for that session.

I (My group and I) need to practice a speech or presentation. Is there a space in the Writing Center to do this and does it require an appointment?
The Writing Center has space for you and/or your group to practice your speech or presentation. You do not need an appointment to use that space, but if you would like the assistance of a Writing Center Learning Specialist, we would highly recommend making an appointment.

Can I send in, email, or drop off a paper?

I noticed my teacher volunteering in the writing center—can I come see him/her there?
Faculty volunteers work with students other than their own while in the Writing Center. Visiting their offices is the best way to meet with professors, and you can see them in the ASC if necessary.
What’s the difference between the Writing Center and the ASC?
The Writing Center helps with writing or communication through one-on-one, 50-minute sessions. The ASC, on the other hand, helps with study skills and other subjects besides writing. Both the Writing Center and ASC offer workshops for students and faculty.
