For faculty at the Writing Center
Though Daytona State College faculty can use any of the student services offered at the DSC-UCF Writing Center, we also encourage them to engage in the instructional resources that we offer. These resources include requesting a workshop, to embedding a Writing Specialist in class discussions, to using the cellar as a unique and reconfigurable class space. Any faculty interested in integrating the Writing Center with their work at DSC can make an appointment to work on any writing or class materials and use our citation resources in class. They can also volunteer tutor at the Writing Center to get a better understanding of what's expected of students who work with us. Faculty should look into the WAC/WID program to further their professional development to integrate critical thinking, active learning, and writing within any academic discipline.
The best way for both instructor and students to learn about the Writing Center is to host an Introduction Workshop. Send us an "Intro" request or visit us in person to learn more. We also recommend including a blurb about the Writing Center on the course syllabus to familiarize students with our services. We hope faculty will engage students in collaboration with the Writing Center services by recommending meeting with a tutor early in the writing process and scheduling appointments for subsequent revision.
Any faculty support goes a long way in serving the entire DSC and UCF community. We encourage and appreciate referrals to the Writing Center, but ask that consultations with us not be mandatory. If any faculty needs to verify a student visit to the Writing Center, please email us at CWC@daytonastate.edu. We also welcome faculty referrals for student peer tutors who are not just strong writers, but ones that also have a desire to help others and are curious to expand their own skill set.
