Adult Education

Daytona State provides several options for students who need to earn a high school diploma, improve their basic skills or prepare for college.  Students must be 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in a public school system.  The courses are offered during the day, afternoon and evening on campus and at various locations throughout the county.  The courses are free of charge to qualified students. 1. Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes are designed to prepare students for the academic requirements of the Adult High School, GED preparation classes and select certificate programs. 

2. English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) classes are available to qualified adults who wish to improve their English language skills to enter college and the workforce.

3. Citizenship courses prepare students for the U.S. Naturalization test and are offered at limited times and locations throughout Volusia County.

4. Adult Tutoring Services are provided in partnership with the Volusia Literacy Council, Inc. Trained tutors work with adults on an individual and/or group basis to improve literacy skills.

5. Adults with Disabilities Program classes provide academic, employment and social skill development to adults with documented disabilities. Locations include the ARC, Conklin Center and United Cerebral Palsy of East Central Florida.  For more information, call (386) 274-0169 or (386) 506-3881.

6. General Educational Development (GED) classes are offered to prepare students for the GED examination.  Students are responsible for the purchase of textbooks for this program.  For specific test information, please see Assessment Services.

7. Daytona State High School provides students the opportunity to earn a standard high school diploma.  All Florida State Standards, including the Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test (FCAT), are required for high school completion.  Students are responsible for the purchase of textbooks for this program.
