What is the GED test?
The GED is a test that measures the major outcomes and concepts generally associated with four years of high school education. Upon successful completion of this test you will receive the State of Florida High School Diploma. The GED test consists of five test areas; Language Arts-Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts-Reading and Mathematics. The GED test takes approximately eight hours to complete and is taken in two morning sessions or two afternoon sessions.
Who is eligible to take the test?
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have acceptable ID which shows name, address, date of birth, signature and photogragh. (valid driver's license, passport, military ID's or any government-issued ID, national or foreign)
- Have a Social Security Card
- Register in Assessment Services prior to taking the GED Test.
- Seating is limited. Registrations are taken on a first come basis. Students who register late may be referred to a future testing session.
What happens after you pass the GED exam?
- A certificate of eligibility will be sent to you
- Bring the certificate to the Student Accounts Office
- Enroll in the next major semester after passing the GED (or earlier if beginning in a mini semester)
What is next if you did not pass the GED exam?
Unfortunately, you are not eligible for the scholarship until you pass.
Please come back to class for a refresher on any missed sections so you
can try again!
Passing the GED
- A standard score of 410 or above on each of the five subtests and an overall score of 2250 must be obtained.
- If you meet the above requirements you will receive The State of Florida High School Diploma from The Department of Education.
- Test results are mailed within six to eight weeks after taking the test.
- If you fail to obtain the minimum standard score or the overall score, you may retake any subtest to raise your score.

Assessment Services is responsible for monitoring test sessions. Daytona State College does not tolerate cheating nor disruptive behavior. If an examinee is suspected of cheating, the test session will be terminated and voided and the examinee will be asked to leave the area. The incident will be reported to college officials and disciplinary action may be taken.
