Online Students – Enrollment Process/Checklist
Students at Daytona State College can take individual classes 100% online, with many classes being 50/50 or hybrid. In addition, some students take advantage of programs that are taught totally online. While the majority of students taking an online class are also taking a “brick and mortar” class, the college has established procedures listed below for students who live outside of the normal service area, or whose work and family schedule prohibits on-campus visits.
More information about the college’s online courses and programs can be found at http://vc.DaytonaState.edu. At this site, you can review the upcoming schedule of online courses and programs, as well as learn about tutoring support.
Follow these steps in the sequence provided to ensure the best possible service:
1. Submit an admission application which is available online at http://www.DaytonaState.edu - Daytona State requires final official copies of your high school transcripts, indicating the completion of a standard high school diploma, or GED scores and, if applicable, final official college transcripts from all educational institutions previously attended. Home school students are required to submit official transcripts and complete a home school verification statement.
Students from other Florida colleges who wish to take an online Daytona State course, but are matriculated at the other college should use the Transient Student process at FACTS.org which provides a fast track for acceptance and registration.
The Admissions Office email is admissions@DaytonaState.edu.
2. Complete a financial aid application - Financial aid is available to meet educational expenses for eligible students enrolled in qualified programs. This aid is provided through the federal government, state government, directly from Daytona State or through private sources and may consist of grants, scholarships, loans or work. You may complete the FAFSA online at http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/. If you need Financial Aid, you should contact that office at least six weeks prior to registering for classes.
The Office of Financial Aid email is financialaid@DaytonaState.edu.
.
3. Complete placement requirements - Fulfill your placement requirements by taking the CPT for degree programs and TABE for certificate programs. If you have previous course work or have taken the SAT /ACT/AP you may be exempt from the placement testing. Make sure to submit official copies to the Admissions Office and bring an unofficial copy with you to Academic Advising. For students that live outside of Daytona State's college service area, testing can be done at other colleges and those testing centers can FAX the CPT or TABE scores directly to Daytona State's Assessment Center for input into our system.
The Assessment Services email is assessment@DaytonaState.edu.
4. Meet with an academic advisor - Talk with an academic advisor to interpret your placement test scores and discuss program requirements. We recommend talking with an advisor prior to registering for the first time. Students are also encouraged to register with Career Services at this time. Students from outside the local area can have a “virtual” meeting with an academic or career advisor using your FalconNet email account.
The Advising Center email is advising@DaytonaState.edu.
