Tremendous possibilities and job security
exist in the nursing field for those with a
desire to touch lives. Nursing professionals
combine the art of caring with the science
of health care to promote health, prevent
disease, and help patients and their families
cope with illness. A career in nursing provides
the opportunity to reach out to people and to
truly make a difference each and every day.
Associate of Science Degree
Registered Nurse (R.N.)
Nurses have never been more important to health
care than they are today. In fact, registered nursing
constitutes the largest health care occupation with
2.3 million jobs and it is expected to continue to grow.
At Daytona State College, you will receive the
technical skills and theory needed to function
successfully as an RN. You will learn how to:
- Observe and assess symptoms, reactions and
progress in patients
- Assist physicians during surgeries, treatments and
examinations
- Administer medications
- Assist in convalescence and rehabilitation
- Develop and manage nursing care plans
- Help patients take steps to improve or maintain
their health
You also will participate in valuable clinical
experiences at local extended care facilities, hospitals
and other community agencies. After completing the
program, you will be prepared to take the National
Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX) for registered
nurses.
If you choose to continue your education, Daytona
State College now offers a Bachelor of Applied
Science in Supervision and Management and
a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.

with the University of Central Florida and
Bethune-Cookman University also gives you
the option to continue your education and
complete your bachelor's degrees in Nursing.
